Foam flowers or False Miterwort are charming woodland plants that form mounds of attractive, green-bronze basal foliage
that changes to reddish in autumn. They are very easy to grow and are undemanding plants.
Blooming in April, the starry ¼ inch flowers are creamy white and pink-tinged, in slender racemes or feathery spikes,
well above the foliage. The flowers have five petals and long, exserted stamens.
Their long-stalked, slightly hairy leaves are palmately lobed or divided and sometimes evergreen in the milder climates.
Some have almost heart-shaped leaves up to 4 inches wide that often changes to a reddish color in the fall.
Tiarella are most at home in your woodland gardens. They can also be used in shaded beds or borders, planted among other shade loving plants such as
bleeding hearts, coral bells, hosta, ferns or spring blooming bulbs.
