Chrysogonum virginianum

goldenstar
( COMPOSITAE )  goldenstar

GoldenStar is a great branching plant that is very useful as a ground cover or edging. When in flower, it is a lush carpet of yellow star-like flowers. It spreads rapidly in the right growing conditions to form a nice thick mat.

The 1-3½ inch opposite leaves are ovate, bluntly toothed and hairy, with crenate margins. The starry 1½ inch flower heads are usually solitary or terminal, with a tuft of disk flowers surrounded by 5 ray florets that are toothed on the ends. Branching stems are also hairy.

They usually flowers in late spring to summer and often rebloom in the fall. Can be very long-flowering in the cooler areas. Flowers are yellowish gold and star-like.
